Freedonia Market Research Analyzes Fuel Cell Industry
April 24, 2008

Commercial fuel cell demand, which accounted for less than ten percent of total spending in 2007, is forecast to expand almost sixfold through 2012 to $975 million and reach $3.3 billion in 2017, when it will represent half of all fuel cell spending. Total US fuel cell spending -- consisting of research and development (R&D;) funding, investment in fuel cell enterprises, revenues associated with prototyping and test marketing, and demand for fuel cell systems, associated products and services -- is expected to reach $3.7 billion in 2012. Prospects for fuel cells vary by market, with success being dependent on how well fuel cells stack up to other potential energy sources. Among the six main fuel cell chemistries, the market for direct methanol fuel cells is expected to advance at the most rapid pace through 2012. These and other trends, including market share and company profiles, are presented in Fuel Cells, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industry research firm.

Freedonia Market Research Analyzes Global Biofuel Demand
April 24, 2008

World demand for biofuels will expand at a nearly 20 percent annual pace to 92 million metric tons in 2011, despite recent concerns about the impact of biofuels on the environment and world food supplies. Market expansion will come from a more than doubling of the world market for bioethanol, and even faster increases in global biodiesel demand. Other biofuels will also experience strong growth, though much slower than either biodiesel or bioethanol. On a regional basis, growth will be driven by a rapid expansion of the biofuel market in North America, particularly for bioethanol. The Asia/Pacific region and Western Europe will experience even faster advances, although absolute gains will trail the larger North American market. Similarly, increases in the small Africa/Mideast and Eastern Europe markets will be well above average. Growth in Latin America will be modest, a consequence of Brazil’s already sizable market for bioethanol. These and other trends are presented in World Biofuels, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industry research firm.

Paperless Coupon Usage On The Rise
April 16, 2008

Strong evidence suggests that consumer spending, a bulwark against recession over the last year even as energy prices surged and the housing market sputtered, has slowed sharply. The possibility of a decline in personal consumption (the first since 1991) would almost certainly push the entire economy into a recession in the middle of an election year. There are mounting anecdotal signs that beginning in December, Americans cut back significantly on personal consumption, which accounts for 70 percent of the economy.

The Impact Of "Cell-Onlys" On Public Opinion Polling
April 14, 2008

The proportion of Americans who rely solely on a cell phone for their telephone service continues to grow, as does the share who still have a landline phone but do most of their calling on their cell phone. With these changes, there is an increased concern that polls conducted only on landline telephones may not accurately measure public opinion. A new Pew Research Center study finds that, while different demographically, Americans who mostly or exclusively rely on cell phones are not substantially different from the landline population in their basic political attitudes and preferences.
